Library ServicesTexas State LibraryTalking Book ProgramThe Texas State Library for the Blind operates the Braille and talking book program of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped in Texas. Its services are available to Texans who due to blindness or some other physical disability are unable to read printed material. Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, (RFB&D)This is the nation's oldest and largest producer of textbooks and other material in recorded format. Member ship for their services is required. Bookshare.orgA nation-wide library of volunteer-produced books available from their portal to eligeable members. NFB Newsline for the Blind newspapers can also be accessed via Bookshare.org. This organization operates a digital talking book download library containing over 7000 titles. Non copyrighted works can be downloaded by anyone anywhere in the World. U.S. NLS patrons can obtain copywrited material via their cooperating network library. ABWA can also produce DAISY digital talking books for interested individuals and organizations. Federated Braille and Talking Book SearchThis demonstration project is a federated search of the talking book and braille collections of the Association for the Blind of Western Australia library, the Vision Australia library and the holdings of the National Library Service for the Physically Handicapped in the United States, and the Royal National Institute for the Blind in the United Kingdom. .Project GootenbergA World-Wide colllection of classic literature and historical documents freely available to interested individuals. Along with all NFB training centers BLIND Inc's program is based on the NFB's Civil Rights Model of rehabilitation and employs Structured-Discovery Learn in its curriculum. Colorado Center for the BlindThe Colorado Center for the Blind is located in Littleton Colorado and provides the same high-quality orientation a nd adjustment to blindness as do the other NFB Centers. Louisiana Center for the BlindBegun in 1985 the Louisiana Center for the Blind was the first of our three centers to be established. It is located in Ruston Louisiana. Other Orientation and Rehabilitation Programs in TexasTexas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, (DARS)The Texas Division of Blind Services, (DBS) provides orientation and adjustment training through the Chris Cole Rehabilitation Center in Austin as well as administering the Texas Business Enterprises Program, provides funding for out-of-state training, adaptive equipment, assistance to blind college students, and senior citizens. Professional Development and Research Institute on BlindnessThis Institute provides leadership in creating programs and conducting research that recognizes the socially constructed assumptions underpinning the current structure of the blindness system and research being done on blindness.
