Back-to-Basics Membership and Chapter Building Seminar

On July 5 at our national convention in Detroit, the Affiliate Action team hosted the 2009 Back To Basics Membership-Building Seminar. Many Federation leaders participated in this information-packed, fun-filled event. They presented dozens of new ideas for ways to keep our local chapter meetings exciting and purposeful. We have posted the audio from the seminar on our Web site, broken down into four one-hour segments. Not only will you get to hear presentations from local, state, and national leaders. you can dance to the great musical introductions to each hour! You will hear unique Ideas and twists for door prize drawings at chapter meetings, state conventions and other federation events. You will also hear some interactions with the audience.

NFB Race for Independence

The Race for Independence is quite simply the expression of our desire to speed toward our goal of achieving first-class citizenship status in society at an ever-increasing pace. It is the anchor of the National Federation of the Blind’s Imagination Fund, the annual campaign to raise proceeds for NFB programs at the national, state, and local levels.

A national clearing house and resource-rich portal for parents and educators to obtain information to encourage blind students toconsider careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, (STEM) fields. Various materials to aid students studying STEM subj ects is also available.

National Center for Mentoring Excelence, (NCME)

This program facilitates mentoring among blind persons. Interested blind individuals can register as mentors or mentees. Blind mentees wanting mentoring in particular areas are linked with successful blind mentors that serve as roll models to encourage and provide them with desired assistance.
