Secretary's Report
President Jose Martinez called the meeting to order at 1:13 P.M. Maria Carreras was introduced as a guest. Therefore, six people were present-five members and one guest. The Chapter listened to Presidential Release #376, which summarized Meet the Blind Month Louis Braille coin activities, the Google law suit, and the Braille Readers Are Leaders 2009-2010 contest, which this year includes a contest for adults. President Martinez explained the problems with the accessibility of Google. The Sam’s Club Fund-raising and Meet the Blind Month activity is still not determined. The membership agreed to have the event on a Saturday. The Chapter game night will take place Friday, September 25, at the apartment of Cindy Garcia and Sarah Litzler, 6130 Ingraham Road, Apartment 1901, from six o’clock to nine o’clock P.M. or until whenever a game concludes. President Martinez is working with the national office to have the Chapter sell the Louis Braille coin. So far, the coins have been ordered, but are not here. There is a Tejano Fest on October 17 with a free booth to sell Louis Braille coins. Discussion followed about whether to have the October meeting or not. Because of the state convention, the Sam’s Club event, and the Tejano Fest, it was decided not to have the October meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for November 21. The Tejano Fest will take place at 1305 East Houston Street. The state convention will take place October 23-25 at the Crown Plaza Hotel, 111 East Pecan Street, in downtown San Antonio. The last day to make hotel reservations is Friday, September 25. Discussion followed about the state convention for Maria Carreras’ benefit. Because there are only proof coins available, only 20 coins can be sold. 176,000 coins have been sold already. 400,000 have to be sold by December 31. The proceeds go toward national Braille literacy programs. If 400,000 coins are not sold, there will not be any funding for Braille literacy programs. Cindy Garcia, Chapter vice president, presented about the San Antonio Chapter Web site, which went on-line to the public today at 12:30. The address of the site is http://www.nfbsatx.org. The meeting adjourned at 2:13 P.M.
