SECRETARY?S REPORT San Antonio Chapter NFB of Texas May 15, 2010 President Jose Martinez called the meeting to order at 1:08 P.M. Eight members were present. First, the Chapter listened to Presidential Release #383, a convention edition. President Martinez reminded members that there would be an affiliate bus to the national convention which will leave San Antonio at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, July 2, and return the afternoon of Friday, July 9. He also pointed out that Chapter members will be hosting Federationists in the Texas Suite on Tuesday, July 6, the first day of general sessions. Marvin Vasquez will be joining the Chapter as a new member. President Martinez reported about the Chili?s Fund-raiser. Treasurer Bryan Baldwin reported that the Chapter made $165. Ninety of the $165 were from meals. Seventy-five dollars of the fund-raiser was a donation. Members will get $20 toward the Race for Independence. There is $200 to go toward the Race for Independence. The next fund-raiser will be the plate sell at East Central Assemblies of God Church on Saturday, June 26. The plate will contain chicken and sausage, rice and beans. President Martinez is working with Denise Rodriguez on donating food for the plates. Denise suggested members bring a twelve-pack of soda to include with plates. Tickets are $5 per plate. The event will last from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Those members going to the convention by the affiliate bus need to bring $25 to President Martinez as soon as possible. Discussion followed about a location to meet to board the bus. Denise Rodriguez contacted Appleby?s on I-35 and Walsam. The address to meet the affiliate bus is 7080 North I.H. 35. Four members present will be taking the bus, and Cindy Garcia is also planning on taking the bus, which makes five members in all. Mary Donahue reported about her third-place winning in the Expert Category of the Adult 2009-2010 Braille Readers Are Leaders contest. Members paid for Chapter T-shirts. Funds left over will go into the Chapter treasury. The design is a picture of the River Walk with an arch, a bald eagle, a hand holding a white cane, and another hand holding a magnifying glass. T-shirts will be available before or during the national convention. Pete Donahue made a motion about Mayor Castro coming to a future Chapter meeting, and Mary Donahue seconded. The motion passed. President Martinez will contact Mayor Castro?s office to have either Mayor Castro or someone from the City Council come some time in the fall, preferably during Meet the Blind month. President Martinez reminded members to sell tickets for the plate sale to raise funds for the Race for Independence. Sarah Litzler suggested posters advertising directions to the event.
